Gurgaon: To boost commercial operations within Haryana and the National Capital Region (NCR), the state government in collaboration with the Union civil aviation ministry will build a heli-hub in Gurgaon, chief minister Manohar Lal Ith attar announced on Wednesday. The state government will submit a draft proposal for the hub, which will also serve as a one-stop centre for maintenance and repair of helicopters, to the aviation ministry within a week. Union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on October 8 had announced a new helicopter policy under which dedicated hubs and corridors wo-uld be established and landing charges and parking deposits abolished to boost commercial operations. On Wednesday, during a meeting with Scin-dia, Khattar and deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala discussed the possibility of setting up one of the mega hubs in Gurgaon. “We will soon send a proposal to the Centre for set-ting up a heli-hub in Gurgaon. As a result of the setting up of a heli-hub in Gurgaon, the airport will also get support due to the facility of intercity and intracity helicopters,” Khattar said. According to officials, the government was already working on a policy to expand air traffic infrastructure in the state and had been mulling over the decision to build a helicopter hub. “It was a happy coincidence that our vision to set up a helicopter hub in Gurgaon has aligned with the new helicopter policy of the Centre under which around 10 heli-hubs will be set up. It is a great honour and opportunity that the civil aviation minister has selected Gurgaon to be one of the de-dicated hubs to not only facilitate commercial operations but also for maintenance and operations of helicopters,” a senior government official told TOL While the government is yet to work out the final details of the project, officials have suggested that the heli-hub was likely to come up in the Global City that is being developed around Sectors 36, 36B, 37, 37B and the Dwarka Expressway. The proposed hub will be developed on10-20 acres of land connected with Dwarka E-way and NH 8.
